WEB SECURITY FAQs
What would I need besides the antenna you install

We strongly recommend the use of a router/firewall such as the ones shown below. This will block intruders from gaining access to your computer. The wireless system does not make you more succeptable, you are at the same risk regardless of your internet service. In addition the the above, we recommend a current virus protection program such as Norton.
Does Weather affect the signal?
Weather does not affect the signal. Most people think of satellite signal and how it fades during heavy cloud coverage or rain. Our system uses a much higher (microwave frequency) and the distance from the tower to any location is nothing comparable to a satellite in the sky.
What does installation constitute?

A grid or flat panel antenna with the radio is mounted outside of your building (on the roof or side depending on where the best signal is obtained). A high quality outdoor CAT5 cable will connect the unit to your computer or router. This installation is complimentary. (approx. 1.5 hours) Once the technician leaves you will be on the internet. We do recommend that you obtain any routers and virus protection systems prior to your installation, as this will make set-up a lot easier.
Sharing your connection within your home
If you have a Laptop and wish to use it around your premise with a wireless connection, there are several brands of Routers you can get that will do the job such as the ones below.
What does the equipment look like?
Our equipment varies from installation to installation. Because of the different antenna gain required for each site, we will select the right antenna for that particular install. Here are some examples of typical install.
How many computers can I have on-line at the same time?
You can use as many computers as you wish. You will need a router to split the signal with in your home. Routers can be 4-port or 8-port.
How can I prevent someone from connecting to my wireless home network and getting free internet?
I can't begin to tell you how many people go out and get a wireless router, take it out of the box, plug it in and start using it without any kind of security setup. All someone has to do is drive down any street with a laptop, park somewhere near your premise and use your internet connection without you knowing it. So why bother paying for internet, take the time to get a wireless router for your convenience if you are not going to secure it. Someone taking your bandwidth will slow your system down.
How do I put encryption on my router so no one can steal my wireless signal?
It is advisable not to broadcast the SSID. First of all what is SSID? SSID is like an Identifier which you set as a name on the router. This tells you that you are connected to your own router. Here is how you do it:
Log onto the router using the default IP address. You do this by first open up the web browser (explorer) or some similar browser like Mozilla. Type in the default IP address http://192.168.1.1 (for Linksys) which comes with the documentation. Usually a Linksys router will have #a log in window that will appear asking you for a user name and password. The default username and password are admin for both respectively. D-link will have http://192.168.0.1 and the user name is again admin no password. Other brands of router will have their own log in IP this can found in the user manual or you can look it up online. Once you have gained access to it you will need to click on a button labelled wireless This page will give you the choice to encrypt your signal using 64 or 128 bit. 64 bit encryption is usually a 10 digit hexadecimal. You can make up these 10 digits and type in the appropriate box. Similarly, you can choose to use 128 bit encryption. This is usually a longer set of numbers which I find not necessary. You will also need to put these numbers into your lap top.
